About the Role

Tearfund Burundi is seeking a skilled, experienced, and motivated individual to join the team as a Programme Funding Officer.

This role plays an important part in supporting the country team to secure funding and strengthen partnerships. You will contribute to developing high-quality proposals, engaging with donors, and supporting partners to effectively manage funding.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Support the development of high-quality proposals and concept notes
  • Engage with institutional donors and other funding sources
  • Work closely with partners, with a strong focus on:
    • Proposal development
    • Donor engagement
    • Capacity strengthening
  • Ensure compliance with donor and Tearfund requirements
  • Contribute to donor reporting and accountability
  • Support partners to:
    • Access funding opportunities
    • Manage grants effectively
    • Successfully close projects

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
    • Development Studies
    • Or a related field

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a local and/or international NGO
  • Experience in:
    • Grant management
    • Proposal development (narratives and budgets)
    • Donor reporting

Technical Skills:

  • Experience in:
    • Strategic planning
    • Project implementation
    • Logframe development
    • Project Cycle Management
  • Familiarity with donor systems such as:
    • DFID
    • USAID
    • EU
    • Multilateral donors
  • Experience working with non-institutional donors (e.g., high net worth individuals) is an asset

Capacity Strengthening:

  • Experience supporting and building the capacity of staff in:
    • Reporting
    • Proposal writing

Standards & Compliance:

  • Familiarity with:
    • SPHERE Standards
    • People In Aid
    • Red Cross Codes of Conduct
    • HAP Principles

Languages:

  • Ability to work effectively in:
    • English
    • French
