About the Role
Tearfund Burundi is seeking a skilled, experienced, and committed professional to join the team as a WASH Officer.
This role is key to ensuring high-quality Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programming. You will provide technical guidance and support to staff and partners, contributing to effective project design, implementation, and management across the country programme.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide specialised technical advice on WASH, including:
- Hardware (infrastructure and construction)
- Software (community engagement, behavior change)
- Support field staff and partners in:
- Project design
- Implementation
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Contribute to the construction and delivery of water and sanitation infrastructure
- Ensure all activities comply with:
- Tearfund policies
- Donor requirements and procedures
- Strengthen the quality and sustainability of WASH interventions across the programme
Spiritual Commitment

Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in:
- Engineering or a related field
- With specialisation in water and sanitation (added value)
Professional Experience:
- Strong, proven experience in:
- WASH project design, implementation, and evaluation
- Evidence-based programming
- Construction of water and sanitation infrastructure
Technical Expertise:
- Experience in:
- Market-based sanitation approaches
- WASH systems strengthening, particularly in fragile contexts
- Strong technical skills in:
- Designing water and sanitation infrastructure
- Collecting, analysing, and using data from multiple sources
Standards & Compliance:
- Familiarity with and experience applying:
- Core Humanitarian Standards
- SPHERE Standards
- Red Cross Code of Conduct
Partnership & Coordination:
- Experience working with:
- Government regulations and authorities
- Local churches and community structures
Languages:
- Fluency in:
- English (spoken and written)
- French (spoken and written)
